Us Girls

Hannah Nathanson

Listen Emily, when we pulled the tarot cards for the goose at the park,
I wanted to say that there’s souls all around this grime city.
Laugh if you like, but the soulless goose that summoned Death?
His soul was all over the pond,
seeping through our day and shoes as we packed up
our Turkey Trot blanket and cell phones and bagel trash and
ran directly from his chaos to the Whiskey Bar. Emily, we have enough
dead horses to beat and problems to podcast about,
but a major one is now we know this goose can turn
his head 180, rest his own beak on his own
lonely shoulder, backwards, with one eye ready
to attack if we, too loudly, too girly,
take on the role of God.
